Gunung
Tujuh lake is one of lakes in Jambi. It is an amazing tourist place to visit.
Its location is in Kecamatan Kayu Aro. It is about 50 kilometers from Sungai
Penuh to Pelompek village by public transport. Then people climb and walk for
another 4 kms or 2.5 hours. The lake is surrounded by steep forest slopes and
seven mountains. The highest peak of Gunung Tujuh is 1.950 m above sea level.

Once upon a time, there was a
poor family who lived in a small village near the forest. The family had two
members. They were a mother and the son, Malin Kundang. They earned themselves
by getting firewood from the forest.
One day, Malin Kundang went
to the big city in order to get the better life than before. At a new place he
got a new job. After several years, he became a very rich merchant.
His mother wanted to meet him
very much. Her longing for him was great. She gave a message to her son friends

THE SMARTEST PARROT
Once upon time, a
man had a wonderful parrot. There was no other parrot like it. The parrot
could say every word, except one word. The parrot would not say the name of
the place where it was born. The name of the place was Catano.
The man felt
excited having the smartest parrot but he could not understand why the parrot
would not say Catano. The man tried to teach the bird to say Catano, however
the bird did not say the word.
At first, the man
was very nice to the bird but then he got very angry. “You stupid bird!”
pointed the man to the parrot. “Why can’t you say the word? Say Catano! Or I
will kill you” the man said angrily. Although he tried hard to teach, the
parrot would not say it. Then the man got so angry and shouted to the bird
over and over; “Say Catano or I’ll kill you”. The bird kept not to say the
word of Catano.
One day, after he
had been trying so many times to make the bird say Catano, the man really got
very angry. He could not bear it. He picked the parrot and threw it into the
chicken house. There were four old chickens for next dinner “You are as
stupid as the chickens. Just stay with them” Said the man angrily. Then he
continued to humble; “You know, I will cut the chicken for my meal. Next it
will be your turn, I will eat you too, stupid parrot”. After that he left the
chicken house.
The next day, the
man came back to the chicken house. He opened the door and was very
surprised. He could not believe what he saw at the chicken house. There were
three death chickens on the floor. At the moment, the parrot was standing
proudly and screaming at the last old chicken; “Say Catano or I’ll kill you”.

Those were the last words from the old man to his sons. Few hours later, the oldman passed away.
A day after the old man died, Kirno went to the market to sell his buffalo. Gito run after , trying to remind him about their father’s will which ask them to help each other but Kirno ignored him, Beno also sold the plought and enjoyed the money himself. Kirno and Beno did nothing but spent their money.
Gito was very upset. But he wanted to become a good farmer like his father. So, he borrowed of plought his neighbor he had to ploght the farm land by himself because he did not have any buffaloes. He worked so hard from the sun rose until the sunset.
After seven years of working hard, Gito a became a succesful farmer but he was not happy because he kept thinking of his brothers. He looked for his brothers everywhere, but still he could no find them.
One day, Gito went down to town to buy some farming equipment. Went he was about to leave the shop, a beggar asked him for some money and a pick pocket was triyning to take his wallet. These people were actually Gito’s brothers. Gito recognized them at the first place. Feelling very happy. Gito quickly hugged them.
In the end, Gito told them that he had become a successful farmer. He also invited them to stay in his house. Kirno and Beno felt ashamed to Gito. They realized that they had done a teribble mistake in the past.
