POOR
PAK LEBAI
Ladies and gentlemen, It is nice to see you here. On this
ocasion I would like to deliver you a meaningful story that entitle “ POOR PAK
LEBAI “ Have you ever heard the story before? Well... This is the story.
Once
upon a time, there was a man who lived on the bank of a river in central
Sumatra. His house laid between two villages. He was a religious teacher. His
name was Lebai. People usually call him “ Pak Lebai. Pak Lebai was well known
by all people
in the two villages. He
made a living by teaching people and sometimes he did fishing.
One
day, the richest families in both of villages were having a big party, Both of them
invited him at the same hour of the same day. It was on the morning
of the feast. In that morning, Pak Lebai was ready to attend
one of the parties by his boat. How ever, a greedy though struck him before he
went.
“Hmmm... There are two big parties. I should come to both
of the parties... But..how? The time is almost the same....hmmmm....”
Pak Lebai
could not decide which village he would attend. The party in the north of the river
only slaughtered one buffalo.
While
the other,
in the south of the river,
The party slaughtered
two buffaloes.
“ The north only slaughtered a buffalo. It means it will
only one buffalo’s head. Hm..... it is better for me to attend the party in the
south”
Then, Pak Lebai
rowed his boat
up stream to the north quickly.
But....
On his way..
“ The people there did not know me well. They will not respect me very much”
Pak Lebai
changed his mind. He
turned down the stream and
rowed his boat to the south.
“ I will
get more respect in the south. They will serve me well. I will get two buffaloes head there..
Hm... Marvelous”
Pak Lebai then turned
down the stream and rowed
his boat to the south.
But....
“ The people
in the south village could not cook very well. The carrie will not
taste delicious.... hm....it is better to go to the north. I will get a very
delicous food there. May be they will give me some to bring home. I have to go
there quickly.....”
Audiences. Pak Lebai still kept thinking whether he should go up
stream or down stream. He turned his
boat up stream again and down stream again. It was done several time. Until the
day was going bright. Finally he decided to go to the north. But, when he nearly
reached the place he saw some people leaving the party. He turned his boat
quickly downstream. Unfortunately, when he arrived there he saw
people leaving the party too. He spent his time going up stream and down stream
until the feast. It was over
and he got nothing.
He
felt weak. He rowed his boat slowly to his house. People had been enjoying
delicious food and pleasant day. But for Pak Lebai, the day had
ended in a great
disappointment.
He
had an unlucky day because of his own greedy . So, That is way he was called
“Lebai
Malang”
or or Poor Pak Lebai.
Well ladies and gentlemen. From this story we can get a
moral value that we may not be greedy. We should decide our decision well
