Purposes of writing genre
Genre | Purpose |
Procedure text | To explain how to do something, how to make something or how to get something. |
Descriptive text | To tell about the subject by describing its features without including personal opinions. |
Recount text | To provide the audience with a description of what occurred and when it occurred. |
Narrative text | To provide entertainment and to make the audience think about an issue, teach them a lesson, or excite their emotions. |
Report text | To classify and/ or describe using facts about the subject’s parts, behavior and qualities. |
Specific Information
It tells about what, who, where, or how, etc which is easily found or stated in the text.
Detailed Information
To know this information, students need to read the text carefully. This information can not be found if the students just scan it.
The typical question of this is the one which uses the question word “Why”.
Reference Word
There will be some pronouns used in a text. Students have to understand what word in the text that the pronoun refers to.

Meaning of the word
It is possible that we can not bring a dictionary with us somewhere, but we have to know the meaning of certain word from the text we are reading. In this situation the ability to know the meaning of the word is very important.
