PAK ANDE AND THE GIANTS
Long
ago, there lived a poor man named Pak
Ande. He was foolish and lazy. His wife worked hard every day to support
the family.
“Pak
Ande, you must work,” said his wife.
“If
you don’t work, what will we eat?”
Finally,
Pak Ande accepted a job on a ship that sailed once a week. Early in the
morning, his wife and child took him to the harbor. However, Pak Ande did not get on the ship. He went back
home and hid in the storage room
for seven days.
One
night, some rats came and bit Pak
Ande’s lips. He felt pain, but he stayed quiet because he was afraid his
wife would find him. After one week, his wife cleaned the storage room. She was
shocked to see Pak Ande.
“You
lied to me!” she said angrily.
The
child was scared when he saw his father’s face without lips. Then, Pak Ande’s
wife left the house with the child. Pak Ande followed them. On the way, they
felt very thirsty.
“Pak
Ande, climb the coconut tree,” said his wife.
After
drinking coconut water, they walked into the forest. Suddenly, they heard
strange sounds.
“What
is that sound, Mom?” asked the child.
They
saw two giants eating people.
“Be
quiet!” whispered the wife.
Suddenly,
the child shouted, “I’m hungry!”
The
giants heard the voice and walked closer.
“We
will eat you!” said one giant.
Pak
Ande stood in front of his family. When the giants saw his face, they became
scared.
“His
face is very scary!” shouted a giant.
The
giants ran away and left their place. Inside, Pak Ande and his family found gold and diamonds.
“We
are rich now,” said the wife.
They
went home and sold the treasure. Their lives became better. They had a big
house and enough food. However, Pak Ande did not change.
“I
don’t need to work anymore,” said Pak Ande.
His
wife sighed. Money can change life, but
it cannot always change a person.
